The new family cabin was a mess when our father bought it, but we fixed it up

I thought our father was nuts when he decided to purchase this run-down family cabin out in the middle of nowhere. It was far from civilization. Also there was this ancient oil furnace that had major issues with heating the place. The fireplace wasn’t too bad, but the whole cabin was trashed and we had to work hard to clean the place and get it tidy enough to actually stay in. We had an HVAC expert come out to check the oil furnace to make sure it was in good working condition and he also cleaned out the chimney for the fireplace so that we could use it safely. He ended up telling us that the oil furnace had some serious issues and he advised it would be best to have it replaced. When our father asked what we should go for, the guy presented the options. Instead of going for a replacement oil furnace which would have to be refilled all the time, our father opted for a modern ductless mini split HVAC system. The HVAC professional said how energy efficient this system is and how it would work perfectly with some solar panels hooked up. He said he could even hook up the solar panels to work flawlessly with the HVAC equipment. So our father went for it and after we put in a lot of work, the cabin was actually relaxing and cozy. We didn’t have the internet, but at least we had electricity from the solar panel set up and we were able to dance to music and watch DVDs and all.
