I love my dad but the older he gets, the more stubborn he is.
And that’s saying something because that man has been bull headed as long as I can remember. The fact is, dad was always accustomed to being able to handle things the way he wanted to. Now that much of his day consists of sitting inside the air conditioning, he’s just not able to do the stuff he once did. That has to be frustrating so I do my best to be compassionate and understanding when it comes to him getting upset. But when it came to the HVAC equipment in his condo, I had to draw the line a bit. When mom died, dad tried living back home alone. My sister was about 2 hours away and could get to him if needed. But we soon figured out that he really needed to be closer. So we found him a condo he could afford down here just 10 minutes from where I live. Moving to a region with a really hot summer sort of through dad for a loop. And we had to sort of get him accustomed to a higher thermostat setting in the summer to keep the HVAC cooling costs down. However, when he decided that he was going to see if he could work on the HVAC unit, I had to sit him down. I pulled out the HVAC equipment warranty and we went over it together. It clearly states that the warranty is void if anyone but a licensed HVAC technician messes with the HVAC unit. That got dad’s attention as he hates to lose money and he’s leaving the air conditioning issues to the HVAC professionals.
