I love the dad thermostat stereotype

One of the things about thermostats that I find absolutely hilarious is the dad thermostat stereotype.

If you have ever had a thermostat and a dad, you probably know exactly what I am talking about.

This stereotype explains exactly how dads react when someone adjusts the thermostat in the house. The dad, who is apparently constantly worried about spending too much money by heating and cooling the house, begins yelling at people for touching the thermostat. Apparently, it is an unspoken rule for dads that nobody else is allowed to touch the thermostat. As a dad, this is their right alone. You can also see this stereotype when someone leaves the door open or the window open in a house while the HVAC unit is running, which causes them to rant about how we don’t want to heat or cool the entire neighborhood. I loved this stereotype because it described my dad’s relationship with the thermostat perfectly. I used to adjust the thermostat just to mess with him, and it would bug him so much. Now, I am a dad, and I do the exact same thing with my thermostat. I don’t let my children touch the thermostat, and it reminds me of my childhood. I am not actually angry about the thermostat, but it is so fun having control of the thermostat and allowing my children to have the same experience that I had. Did your dad act the same way with the thermostat? Comment below if you can relate or have a funny story about your dad and the thermostat.
