Servicing furnace to make winter slightly better

I have to say, I never thought that I would be in this position.

I have been a die-hard fan of leaving this area every winter so I can avoid the horrible weather conditions that are headed into the region. As you might imagine, winter in the midwest is nothing to sneeze at. It gets extremely cold, there is a ton of snow, and it can be outright dangerous. For many years I have been escaping to the south in order to enjoy warmer, balmier weather conditions. I find that the outdoor air temperature is so pleasant I don’t even need to worry about my indoor air quality control equipment down there. That being said, it looks like I will be staying in the Midwest for this winter. I am not happy about this development in my life and I really wish that I wasn’t stopped with this freezing cold condition. However, I’m doing what I can to make the best of it. Namely, calling out the local heating, cooling, and air quality control dealership to have my forced air furnace professionally inspected before the cold air sets in. I have learned the hard way too many times that you do not want a heating breakdown in the middle of winter. Not only do you face the real possibility of hypothermia in the brutal cold, but you spend a lot of money for the heating and cooling technicians to repair your central heating system without pause. I have been financially and personally affected by winter too many times to let this heating failure happen again. I may be stuck here, but I will have excellent indoor heating this year.
