Radiant floor heating pros and cons

Since my home comfort business started offering radiant floor heating, I got a ton of questions.

I figured I would make it easier by listing some of the main pros and cons of radiant floor heating.

Of course, this is not a comprehensive list, but I hope it will be clarifying for you! I’ll start with the pros. Radiant floor heating gives your home uniform heating throughout- you won’t have to worry about insufficient ductwork or what have you. Radiant floor heating is also easy to install and energy efficient (about 25% more efficient than forced air heating). Some other benefits of radiant floor heating are its noiselessness, lack of required maintenance, and the fact that it’s non-allergenic. Some of the issues with radiant floor heating is that your current flooring will need to be replaced. Additionally, with radiant floor heating, you will see that your floor height is slightly elevated. Some folks have complained that radiant floor heating messed up some of their measurements and spacing. I will also say that radiant floor heating is pretty costly. Depending on the type of radiant floor heating you’re looking for, you’re looking at upwards of $20 per square foot! If that’s something that you can afford and something that you want, I think radiant floor heating is a great option. I have radiant floor heating at my house and I’ll tell you, I don’t think I’ll ever go back.
